Shotography is the music project of Melbourne videographer and creative director Sean Higgins. His debut album ASTRAL is twelve songs, one for every sign of the zodiac. Each is written about someone from his 15 years in the creative industry, and each wears the genre of its sign.
Shotography is the music project of Sean Higgins, a Melbourne videographer, editor and creative director who has spent 15 years telling other artists' stories through a lens.
His debut album ASTRAL is twelve original songs, one for every sign of the zodiac. Each is written about someone he has met across his career, and each wears the genre of its sign: hyperpop punk for Aries, neo-soul for Taurus, industrial dance for Scorpio, shoegaze for Pisces. Made in a single 12-hour session with AI tools and paired with a sculptural visual world of marble, chrome and colour, ASTRAL is an experiment in creating purely for the joy of creating.
Sean grew up dancing in the living room with his Latin-dancer parents, played piano and double bass through his teens, and went on to spend his career filming musicians and dancers. ASTRAL is the first time he has made music of his own.
The next chapter: taking these songs to the extraordinary musicians Sean has worked with over the years and reimagining them together.
The album
Frustrated with projects stuck in post-production, Sean set out to make something he could start and finish in one day. He set a 12-hour timer and made twelve songs, one for each star sign. Each song's genre and structure is shaped by its sign, and each is written about a real person from his career. He then spent the following weeks building ASTRAL's visual world: a brutalist concrete gallery where each sign is a marble sculpture lit in its own colour, with a lyric video and a "transformation" film for every track.
ASTRAL was made with AI music tools, and Sean is open about it. Having watched AI reshape his own industry, he chose to learn the technology rather than fear it, using it as a sketchbook for songs he hopes to one day record with real musicians.

I've watched AI reshape my own industry. Instead of fearing it, I decided to learn it and see if it could help me tell stories in a medium I never thought I'd get to work in.
This is where these songs start, not where they end. My dream is to record them with the incredible musicians I've worked with over the years.
